Up for sale, a 1962 Rickenbacker 625 in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. This is a first-year example of the 625, essentially a premium iteration of the 615 with “deluxe” binding on the fingerboard and cresting wave body, a pair of Toaster Top pickups, an Ac’cent vibrato, and Rick-o-Sound stereo jacks.
Crafted from solid maple, this 625 is chock-full of classic Ric jangle, weighing 7lbs 7oz, with terrific liveliness and immediacy. These qualities are channeled faithfully via the alnico magnet Toaster Top pickups, and each pickup position has a distinct, chiming sound with focused snap at the bridge and particularly broad warmth at the neck. This 625 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, dialed in with 11-49 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The gloss Black finish (this instrument predates the adoption of the “Jetglo” branding by Rickenbacker) exhibits subtle checking, and there is wear through the finish along the back body edge. There is some light buckle rash on the back, pick scuffing on top, and some small dings and finish scratches on the body as a whole. The gloss on the neck profile is inviting and fast-feeling with some small areas of palm wear to the bare maple.
The original silver tolex hardshell case is included. The case has clean black leather ends, functional latches and the original handle. There is a stable split along the tail edge of the case.
