Yamaha's AE archtop range was first introduced in '67 (the earliest examples have the black plastic pickup covers seen here), and this premium Japanese-made guitar clearly takes its notes from Gibson's larger electrified archtop offerings. The body features a spruce top and maple back and sides with a full 17\" lower bout width and 3 3\/8\" body depth. There's a percussive, dry quality to the pickups that retains exquisite clarity and midrange chop. The bridge pickup is sweet and clear with just enough upper midrange presence and bite, while the neck pickup is pillowy and broad with a real richness that retains good string-to-string definition with complex chord voicings. The instrument is featherweight at 6lbs 12oz, professionally setup here at Mike \u0026amp; Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-52 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.The two-piece maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders in every register, measuring .835\" deep at the 1st fret and .955\" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard features multi-ply binding and split hexagonal pearloid inlay, retaining the original slender frets which are in excellent shape. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3\/4\" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The fretboard measures 42mm in width (1.650\") at the zero fret just forward of the bone nut, and the headstock retains the original chrome tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold pitch well.The electronics function as intended, with dedicated Volume and Tone knobs for each pickup and a three-way pickup selector toggle. Hardware includes the tune-o-matic bridge with nylon saddles and floating rosewood base, paired with the trapeze tailpiece which has a large rosewood insert and bright chrome plating. Plastics include the black pickup covers and multi-ply elevated pickguard which shows some expected pick scuffing.The spruce top and bookmatched two-piece maple back sport a bold three-tone Sunburst gloss finish, and the spruce top has perfect curvature with no sinking. Cosmetic wear is limited to a few light finish scratches on the back and a couple tiny nicks on the body as a whole, with some light finish checking at the center seam of the two-piece maple neck.The original hangtag is included, along with a padded gigbag.","brand":"Yamaha","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":42509491863808,"sku":"SA002998","price":1699.99,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0550\/4437\/4714\/products\/medium_e3b17e93-1ccc-455a-a74f-95462cccac18.jpg?v=1751559648","url":"https:\/\/mmguitarbar.com\/products\/1960s-yamaha-ae-11-vintage-archtop-175-style-electric-guitar-sunburst-w-hangtag-japan","provider":"Mike \u0026 Mike's Guitar Bar","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
