Produced in the first year of the H49s production run, this Stratotone has two small features unique to the 1958-59 Stratotones, with the distinctive "Long Y" on the Harmony headstock silkscreen, and the small metal brackets which surround the pot shafts in the wiring harness.

Featherweight at 4lbs 15oz, the H49 Stratotone is one of the most unique and well-designed instruments to feature DeArmond's famed gold foils pickups, with hollowbody construction, a solid spruce top, maple back and sides, and slab Brazilian rosewood fretboard. This guitar delivers plenty of twang and top end, balanced with a full midrange and tight bass response, thanks to the particular tonewood construction. The clear, percussive quality of the DeArmond gold foils really shines here, with a glassy, dynamic snap and woody bite when you dig in hard. The Stratotone H49 model was one of Harmony's top tier offerings in the late 1950s, and this example has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with easy-playing action and 11-49 flatwound strings (wound G).

Neck Specs:

Wood: Maple
Shape: “Baseball bat” C, measuring .940” 1st fret, .960” 9th fret
Fretboard: Brazilian rosewood, block inlay
Frets: Slender, no wear
Scale Length: 24 1/4”
Nut: 1 3/4”, bone
Tuners: Waverly, open-gear

Body Specs:

Wood: Spruce, Maple
Pickups: DeArmond Gold Foil x2 (Rowe Industries stickers)
Controls: Volume x2, Tone x2, “Blender,” Three-way rotary pickup selector
Harness: CTS pots date to the 28th week of 1958
Hardware: Brazilian rosewood bridge, trapeze tailpiece (nickel-plated)
Plastics: One-ply tortoise pickguard, DeArmond bell knobs, rotary knob
Factory Markings: 1958 date stamp in control cavity

The original gloss nitro lacquer finish exhibits pick wear across the strum path, a small area of buckle scuffing on the back at the bass-side waist, and various additional minor nicks and scuffs from use.
