Up for sale, a 1958 Gretsch 6191 Streamliner in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. A rare, golden age Gretsch model only produced from 1957-58 with a Filter’Tron, the 6191 is essentially a single pickup version of the much better-known Chet Atkins-endorsed 6120. Crafted in the first few months of ‘58, this Streamliner boasts a fully-hollow trestle braced maple body with a spruce top and an early PAF Filter’Tron with a plain cover.
Developed at the request of Chet Atkins, the trestle bracing is designed both for maximum resonance and feedback mitigation, and this guitar has tons of natural projection and sustain on tap, providing an ideal platform for the PAF Filter’Tron. Plugged in, this early Filter’Tron yields quintessential Gretsch chewy cut, broad and smooth with a thick, glassy punch, with sonic variety provided via the three-way Tone switch. Weighing 6lbs 8oz, this 6191 Streamliner has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Maple (two-piece)
-Shape: Slender D, measuring .810” 1st fret, .945” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Ebony, hump-block inlay
-Frets: Medium jumbo, refret, no wear
-Scale Length: 24 3/4”
-Nut: 1 5/8”, bone
-Tuners: Waverly open-gear, white buttons (replacement)
Body Specs:
-Wood: Spruce, maple
-Pickups: PAF Filter’Tron
-Controls: Volume, Three-way Tone switch
-Hardware: Music City Space Bar compensated Space Control-style bridge (replacement), “G” tailpiece, “G” knurled pointer knob
-Plastics: One-ply plexi pickguard
-Serialization: 26XXX on label (bass-side f hole) dates to early 1958
The gloss Western Orange nitro lacquer finish exhibits some finish checking and two small areas of mirrored touch-up central to the back. There is faint buckle rash central to the back as well and minor marks on the body as a whole. Natural palm wear has left the neck profile with a flawless silky smooth satin feel.
The original hardshell case is included.
