Up for sale, a 1950 Gibson LG-1 in exceptional condition, 100% original save for a professional neck reset and carved bone saddle. A particularly well-kept golden age Gibson, this LG-1 features a very hearty "baseball bat" neck profile carve, solid spruce top, solid Honduran mahogany back, sides and one-piece neck, and a Brazilian rosewood fretboard and bridge.

A dynamic instrument with an immediate, percussive note attack, the LG-1 has a tone that's surprisingly big and bold, with more rumble and breadth to the bass register than many of its ladder-braced brethren. The treble register is particularly articulate and sparkling, and bass notes are clear and defined with sweet bloom. The midrange character is very balanced, and the guitar is receptive to fingerpicking too. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and featherweight at 3lbs 10oz, this LG-1 features comfortable action and fresh 12-53 strings.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a round baseball bat C profile carve at the nut, gaining even more heft higher up the fretboard and very easy-playing, measuring .910" deep at the 1st fret and .975" at the 9th. On the Brazilian rosewood fretboard, the original slender “banjo” frets are remarkably clean with only very light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3, and similarly light wear into the rosewood itself in this area. The guitar plays cleanly in every register up the 24 3/4" scale, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nylon nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock retains a very clean gold Gibson silkscreen and original Kluson Deluxe single line tuning machines with stock white buttons. There is a slight bend in the D tuner arm that doesn’t affect functionality, and a small "2" on the top back of the headstock denoting a Factory 2nd for some small finish flaw imperceptible after 70+ years.

The guitar benefits from a professional neck reset, and the neck meets the body at an ideal angle, ensuring decades of future trouble-free use. A corresponding bone saddle has also been carved, slotting cleanly into the original Brazilian rosewood bridge. The guitar retains its original dark red tortoise guard which sits flush with the top on all edges. The top and back are crack-free, and there’s only one very faint and professionally addressed split at the treble-side waist in the mahogany. The factory order number is also clean and bold, visible through the soundhole and stamped on the heel block.

The original Sunburst gloss finish exhibits broad lacquer checking on the back, with tighter checking on the sides and headstock face. There is modest pick wear across the strum path extending lightly above the soundhole, and only a few minor dings and light finish scratches consistent with careful (and very minimal) use on the body as a whole. The gloss finish on the neck profile is smooth and free of palm wear.

A modern brown tolex hardshell case with red plush interior is included.
